Coffee forest conservation education, communication and deliberation: Innovation systems and implementation support
Subproject 6 has two main areas of activity and research:
This set-up has been chosen to make medium and long-term implementation and change more likely to happen. Communication is the key factor in all this (click here to enlarge figure).
Experience from many research projects makes evident, that education and communication play a significant role in conservation issues. The target groups in the case of CoCE are decision-makers on all levels, the people living around coffee forests, farmers, coffee producers, and coffee consumers who need to be informed and educated about the importance of conserving the natural environment of Coffea arabica, and what they need and are expected to do. The long-term success of conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity thus depends largely on public understanding and support. Subproject 6 is focusing on these key aspects.
