CoCE - not only an abbreviation

In Ethiopia, when the issue of coffee and conservation is mentioned, Coce is the first place which comes to mind.

The CoCE-abbreviation (Conservation and use of the wild population of Coffea arabica in the montane rainforests of Ethiopia) was selected, because:

• Coce is a place close to Jima in the former Kefa administrative region and is said to be the origin of coffee.
• Coce is also probably the place where domestication and cultivation of coffee was started.
• Coce is currently the only place where coffee genetic resources are reserved in Ethiopia in field gene banks.
